Reminiscing Love

I went through loves of the past
Through the memories in a box
I take them out when I want to remember you
When I want to shed some tears.

You’ve added something to me
A facet to my personality.
You gave me bliss and joy
Made me feel good
For a while.

Taught me a lesson, too
A valuable one:
Love’s not forever
The one who says he loves you
Will leave you
Disappear
Walk out on you.

My heart grew tougher, harder
I shed my naivete like a snake its skin
Took on some sense and reason
Built a fence.

I love again
With no illusions
It’s ephemeral but I want.
My love will last and so will yours
But we won’t be forever.

Morning

Head resting on my palm,
I see you in the morning light sliced by the blinds.

Watching you toss and turn,
withdrawing to the edge.
You touch me passing by,
my hand caressing you.

You turn again, half open eyes.
I breathe you in, your nose is rubbing mine.
You kiss my lips, they lightly touch.
Your arms stretch out, drawing me close.

I feel your body, against my cool skin you are warm.
The soft embrace grows strong, the want..
